Random Signage IIII

This beautiful clock was donated to Ohio University by the campus's Phi Beta Kappa chapter to commemorate the opening of the new student center. In case you haven't noticed yet, check out the number 4. Oops.

Kevin -

Those of us who studied Latin as opposed to German know that IIII is a ligitimate way to denote 4 in Roman Numerals. It was an earlier version later supplanted by the more commonly seen IV. Obviously the clock is a Roman antique.

Well, my face is red. Regardless, I doubt the fine people at Phi Beta Kappa decided they wanted to give a nob to the older Roman usage of the number 4. I will still make fun of them.

it's okay, Kev. i studied Latin, and I didn't know that. or didn't remember it. i think it's a hilarious clock.

i'm so sad i can't find it just now - it's buried somewhere in a box - but i have a picture for you to add to your collection someday. it's of a restaurant called the Sanitary Lunch.

frightening, isn't it? i drove past it the same day i saw a billboard for "Lift-It: the world's first germ-proof toilet seat handle." seems that really caught on...
